Dr. Anderson uses a technique, or combination of techniques, that are right for you and your medical condition. Read about a few of these techniques, including spinal adjustment, massage therapy, and electrostimulation below. Dr Anderson also specializes in treatment of women who are pregnant.

Pregnancy:

As many new mothers can attest, the muscle strains of pregnancy are very real and can be more than just a nuisance. The average weight gain of 25 to 35 pounds, combined with the increased stress placed on the body by the baby, may result in severe discomfort. Studies have found that about half of all expectant mothers will develop low-back pain at some point during their pregnancies.1-3 This is especially true during late pregnancy, when the baby's head presses down on a woman's back, legs, and buttocks, irritating her sciatic nerve. And for those who already suffer from low-back pain, the problem can become even worse.

During pregnancy, a woman's center of gravity almost immediately begins to shift forward to the front of her pelvis. Although a woman's sacrum-or posterior section of the pelvis-has enough depth to enable her to carry a baby, the displaced weight still increases the stress on her joints. As the baby grows in size, the woman's weight is projected even farther forward, and the curvature of her lower back is increased, placing extra stress on the spinal disks. In compensation, the normal curvature of the upper spine increases, as well.

Many pregnant women have found that chiropractic adjustments provide relief from the increased low-back pain brought on by pregnancy. Chiropractic manipulation is safe for the pregnant woman and her baby and can be especially attractive to those who are trying to avoid medications in treating their back pain. Doctors of chiropractic can also offer nutrition, ergonomic, and exercise advice to help a woman enjoy a healthy pregnancy.

Chiropractic care can also help after childbirth. In the eight weeks following labor and delivery, the ligaments that loosened during pregnancy begin to tighten up again. Ideally, joint problems brought on during pregnancy from improper lifting or reaching should be treated before the ligaments return to their pre-pregnancy state-to prevent muscle tension, headaches, rib discomfort, and shoulder problems.

At DelNorte Chiropractic we have the experience and the equipment to comfortably and gently treat women in all stages of pregnancy.  We are one of only a very few clinics in El Paso which will treat women who are pregnant and are recommended by many OBGYN’s in El Paso.

XRay:

Del Norte Chiropractic utilizes an HCMI 100 kHz High Frequency, low dosage XRay generator providing the highest image quality with the lowest amount of patient radiation. Diagnostic imaging is an important part of the chiropractic examination.  X-rays will only be taken on a patient if Dr Anderson finds the clinical necessity for their use.  Dr Anderson utilizes the x-ray to identify and gain insight into contraindications for treatment, fractures, traumatic injuries, pathology, and areas of biomechanical dysfunction or developmental variants which will affect patient care.  Areas of biomechanical dysfunction are further analized by Dr. Anderson by making specific measurements and locating areas of potential nerve interference.  Once identified, Dr. Anderson can then determine which precise treatment or referral is needed to reduce or eliminate the nerve interferences and restore normal nerve function.  Del Norte uses an in-house XRay unit which means that you will not have to go elsewhere to have imaging done.

Spinal Adjustment

A spinal adjustment is the art of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is not moving properly. This adds motion to the joint, helping the bones to gradually move to the normal position. The purpose of this chiropractic procedure is for improved spinal function, improved nervous system function, and overall improved health.

There are many ways to adjust the spine. Usually the doctor's hands or a specially designed instrument delivers a brief and highly accurate thrust. Some spinal adjusting methods are quick, whereas others require a slow, constant pressure. After years of training and clinical experience, each chiropractor becomes highly skilled in the variety of spinal adjustment procedures, and spinal manipulation.

Massage Therapy

Deep tissue massage by a massage therapist offers many medical benefits and is one of the best methods to relieve stress, headaches and pain. Through manipulation of the muscles and pressure to the body, massage therapy increases circulation, sending oxygen throughout the body. The physiological results of massage are astounding, including a reduction in pain, faster muscle recovery during sports and fitness activities, and a more balanced, relaxed body.

Electrotherapy

Because the body's nerves are electrical conductors, medical professionals have long held that stimulating nerve endings with small electrical current can produce beneficial results.

The theory behind electrotherapy as part of chiropractic care is that such stimulation to affected nerves and muscles encourages the body to release pain-killing chemicals, such as opiates and endorphins, and blocks pain signals from being transmitted to the brain.

Electrotherapy is a pain management technique, and as such, is part of an overall chiropractic treatment regimen. Electrotherapy is usually involved in the early treatment stages, especially right after an injury. Ice and heat therapy may be combined with electrotherapy to boost its pain-killing powers.

Electrotherapy normally involves placing small adhesive pads on the skin at various points on the body. Electrotherapy is generally not painful. The adhesive pads may cause a minor skin irritation after being removed, and in some instances, patients may feel a mild stinging after therap
