Choosing a Chiropractor- Be sure the chiropractor is licensed to practice in your state.
- Find out if he/she has attended an accredited chiropractic college.
- Ask the chiropractor's office to describe what techniques the chiropractor uses, his beliefs about chiropractic and more.
- You can evaluate a chiropractor by talking to his/her patients about these criteria:
- Interpersonal manner
- Technical quality
- Effectiveness of care
- Accessibility and convenience
- Financial issues
- Continuity
- Physical environment
- Availability
- If you choose a chiropractor and do not feel satisfied with their diagnosis or treatment, remember you are totally within your rights to go to a different chiropractor to see if they can help you better. Don’t feel you have to stay with the same chiropractor if they are not helping to relieve the pain in your joints or muscles, after all that is the only reason you have gone to the chiropractor in the first place.
- A chiropractor should ask detailed questions about your past and present health history, do a complete physical exam, and order or take x-rays and/or other tests when necessary BEFORE starting any treatment plans.
- A chiropractor should be able to tell you what they believe the problem is, a suggested treatment plan, and in many cases what they believe the cost of treatment will be. Unfortunately, there are a small number of doctors, including Chiropractors who treat every patient pretty much the same, regardless of their condition and care more about getting the patient in and out.
- A chiropractor should be willing to take the time to talk to you and explain the problem and the proposed solutions. Education is key to keeping the patient happy and to helping them help maintain their body. If you sense the chiropractor is rushed in his/her initial visit chances are they are overloaded and you will not get the attention and care you deserve.
